I can breathe!

Thank goodness we had a small snow storm last night. The smog is gone, at least for now. I am still sneezing and stuffy, but I am hopeful that a day or two of clean air will take care of that!

One of my tests was delayed a week so that was nice. I am going to try to get some scrapbooking done tonight. My scrapbook group has a challenge each month and I set a goal and hope to complete it tonight. Mike has bowling and Chelsea has homework so I should be able to get some pages finished!

I went to the dentist today to get a filling replaced. It was about 25 years old so it was probably time. I'm still numb but the dentist, who looked about 20 years old, told me it might start hurting later on, so I am going to have something soft for dinner. No use pressing my luck.

Well if I'm going to get anything done I'd better get started!

I am SICK!

I am sick, sick, sick! I am pretty sure the smog we've had for the past 18 days is responsible for my stuffy nose, headache, coughing and sneezing. Hopefully we'll get a storm in the next few days and clear out this mess!

Chelsea talked to her Aunt Dionne on the phone last night. And as she is with everyone except her friends, she couldn't wait to get off. That girl has never really been a telephone talker, preferring email and/or text messaging instead. We got some more photos of her other family. She has a 22 year old, married sister, Andrena, a 15 year old sister who lives with her mother in Conn. named Jordan, two sisters and a brother that live with their father (and hers) and their mother. They are Anastasia, Julian, and Trinity. Going from an only child to one with more siblings than she can imagine has been a trip for her. I sent several of the photos Dionne sent to Costco and had them printed out for Chelsea. This morning she asked if she had to keep her siblings a secret. I told her of course not. I did remind her that my family has always been here for her and she should keep that in mind while enjoying the excitement of a new family. She said she loves our family and no one could ever replace any of them. Guess she's more mature than I sometimes give her credit for.

I had lunch with Mike today at Fazoli and I was surprised to see my friends Laura, Candy and Dianne walk in! Candy and Dianne finally got to meet Mike and we all discussed going to the Shooting Star pub in Eden some night.

Mike let me sit on his Harley today! Now that's trust! I was afraid I'd let it fall over, but all is well.

Well I need to get some studying done, I have 3 tests on Friday! Wish me luck.

Oh my gosh!

What an amazing 24 hours! First, Mike asked me to go to Sturgis in August. This is the biggest motorcycle rally in the world. I told him I would be there, but I still need to work on the logistics. This is a big deal for me because it means that both of us think we will still be together in August. Since I haven't had a relationship that lasted more than 6 weeks this is good new for all involved. Second, and you need to sit down for this:

Chelsea's Aunt Dionne called me today! She is Chelsea's father's sister! We haven't heard from her in about 14 years. To be fair, I'm sure Dionne didn't know how to contact us. I have sent Grandma Jones (Chelsea's paternal grandmother) a Christmas card the last 10 years or so. I am a firm believer that children need anyone who loves them in their lives. I feel especially concerned that she needs all members of her family that love and respect her in her life.

From information I gathered from her Aunt I told her that she has 4 half-sisters and 1 half-bother. She understands that her father and others might not reach out to her as her Aunt has done and she says she is okay with that. Her Aunt lives in California and Chelsea wants to go there to see her Aunt, Uncle and cousins so we'll see how that goes. I am very excited that Chelsea will have an opportunity to get to know the other side of her family.

Mike has a job and Chelsea has contacts!

Mike found out today that he starts working for a gov't contractor on the 12th of February. I am really happy about that. He has been retired for about 6 months and is getting bored, so this will keep him busy. The money will be nice for him because he has his eye on another Harley, so he needs to pay off the one he already has first. No, he's not going to trade that one in, he wants two of them. Evidently they make a Harley for every kind of riding, such as for road trips, driving around town, etc. Something tells me I'll be learning more about that in the future!

Chelsea got fitted for contacts last week and we went in today for her checkup. She still can't get the left one in by herself, but the Dr. is sure she'll eventually get the hang of it. She wanted colored contacts so we agreed on gray. Her eyes are almost black normally so the grey makes them lighter, but not too freaky. She tried on Honey and Green and those were a little to dramatic.

I went running today, did 3.65 miles. Not too bad, but later I read my friend Carol's blog and she reminded me that the air quality was unhealthy today, so probably shouldn't have run outside. Oh well, I don't have asthma or other breathing problems so I probably won't die from it.

I have 3 tests next week so I will probably be spending some time this weekend studying. Tomorrow Mike and I are going out to dinner and a movie. Not sure where we are going to eat or what movie we are going to see but that's okay. We talked today about going to Wendover to see a Foreigner concert so I'll need to find out dates on that so I can make arrangements for Chelsea. Good thing she likes Mike or dating would be miserable. Maybe that's why I haven't done much before this. She's never liked anyone I've dated before.

Okay, so Valentine's Day is coming up pretty quick and I have no idea what to get him. Any suggestions? I'm not a fan of gift cards so that's out. Guess I could head to the Harley shop and buy just about anything and he'd like it. Actually, I know he would like an MP3 player, but I don't know if that would be too much. Hmmmm. Maybe I should just break up with him before then so I don't have to worry about it. Just kidding, he might be planning on getting me something and I'd hate to lose out on that! :)

Sunday

Yesterday Chelsea and I went skiing/snowboarding. It was actually pretty nice on the slopes, at least in the morning. By the afternoon it started snowing, which was good because we need the moisture, but not too great for skiing in. I quit about 1:30 and decided to sit in the lodge and do homework. Chelsea had a lesson, so she went to that. She had a hard fall but thankfully she had her helmet on. She got a bad headache, but otherwise seems fine. I was worried about a concussion but she refused to go to the doctor, and other than the headache she didn't have any other symptoms. She was much better by last evening so I went out to dinner with Mike and his two friends, Mike and Annie.

We went to Osaka Japanese Restaurant in Layton. I tried lots of different things including raw tuna and salmon, as well as sushi with tuna, shrimp, salmon and who knows what! I actually surprised myself and everyone else by liking all of it. I especially like the spicy tuna roll. We had a great time and I enjoyed getting to know Mike's friends better. The only bad thing is that I now like sushi and it isn't cheap! Like I really need a taste for more expensive food. I already love filet mignon! Oh well, as long as I'm dating Mike that means he is paying, right? :) I really don't feel too bad about that because I cook for him one or two times a week so I think we are even.

Mike told me it looks like he'll be getting a job in about 4 weeks. The company he wants to work for is losing one of their employees (one of Mike's best friends who is starting with the Dept. of Defense) and it looks like they want to hire Mike to take his place. I am really glad because Mike is tired of not working and I'm sure he'll be happier once he has something to occupy himself.

Today Chelsea and I went to church and we were lucky enough to be joined by Caitlyn. We love when she joins us. There were new members sitting in our normal spot so we sat on the side. It was a different perspective, but next time we go to the late service we'll have to scope out our seats early!

I really need to get some homework done so I'll say goodnight!

I Feel Good!

What a great day! First I ran 4 miles on the indoor track at the gym. Yes, that's 40 laps, and yes I RAN them all!

After that I enjoyed some time in the steam room, then showered, changed and went to the credit union where I paid off my Camry! I made 3 whole payments!!! I am so thrilled! I also received the payment for the rental car from my insurance company!

What a great day!

Last night Mike and I went to a Chief's Induction Ceremony for a friend of mine who was recently selected for promotion to E-9, which is a VERY big deal in the Air Force. Mike wore a suit and I wore a black dress. I must say we made a very nice looking couple. I got to see lots of people I used to see all the time. Funny thing, though, most didn't recognize me, because I look so different from how I looked when I was on active duty. I got lots of compliments on my hair and how "young" I look! Wish they had these things every week! :)

Now tomorrow might be a different story. We plan on going skiing, even though the high temp is supposed to be only 27 degrees and that's down here in the valley, not up on the slopes. BRRRR.

Tomorrow evening Mike and I will be going out with some friends for sushi. Mike is half Japanese so he loves the stuff. I figure if I'm going to continue hanging around with him then I probably better at least try it. He did tell me it would be okay if I didn't like it. I'll report back tomorrow (or whenever I get around to blogging again!).

It's still cold!

It is still too cold to run outside, at least for me! This morning the temp. indicator on my car said it was 10 degrees out. I think it got up to about 20 degrees today!

Yesterday I went to school while Chelsea went snowboarding since her school was out for an extra day. I thought it was Monday so got to school 1/2 hour late. Then today I went to the wrong class. Luckily I realized it before I was late for the class I should have been in. Hopefully I'll get it together soon1

Last night Mike came over for dinner. I tried a new recipe for Fettuccine Alfredo, from Cooking Light. It wasn't that good, so I'll throw that recipe out. Mike washed dishes for me, then we watched American Idol. I know that wasn't his first choice for TV shows, but it was for me and Chelsea and girls rule in this house! He did enjoy watching Boston Legal with me after that. Chelsea had to go to bed because I don't want her watching that show. It should have an "R" rating but it is hilarious!

I went to the gym today and ran/walked 4.25 miles. I really need to get into better shape! I need to be able to run that distance soon, so I can work up to my 10K. I'm glad Mike and are back to going to the gym every day.

I have a Soccer meeting tonight so I'd better get prepared for that. I am the fundraising chairperson for the team. I also am Chelsea's Girl Scout cookie mom, and cookie sales start on the 20th. I'll be glad when that is over.

Great news!

My insurance company ROCKS! They called yesterday and confirmed my Highlander is totaled. Then they told me how much they were going to pay me for it. Suffice it to say that it is thousands more than I expected and it is enough so I can pay off my 2007 Camry when I get the check!

I did have a thought that I probably need to start saving some money so I can afford insurance after this! Although this turned out great financially I certainly don't recommend a roll-over as a way to get a new vehicle! It could have been very tragic. I know that God and his angels were looking out for us through all of this.

Chelsea has an indoor soccer game today and snowboarding lessons. It is currently 6 degrees here so I will be sitting in the lodge during her snowboard lessons. It is just way too cold for me to be on the slopes. This will give me a chance to get some homework done and then I can relax for the rest of the weekend.

Chelsea and I went to Archivers, a big scrapbooking store in Orem. The drive is ridiculous but we had fun, just the two of us. I bought about $10 worth of scrapping supplies then we checked out the rest of the mall and Chelsea got a new shirt.

Speaking of Chelsea I'd better get her up so she can get ready for her busy day. Probably better get the Motrin ready, too! She'll probably need it after soccer!

Thursday

Yesterday I went to the gym and ran (mostly) 3 miles. It felt great to get back into running. I have been running off and on for about a month, but I am on again and hope to stay that way since I plan on running the Standard Examiner 10K in June with my friend, Tammy.

After the gym I went to the BX and they have lots of clearance clothing at 75% off. I got a great coat for $12.50! I'll be wearing that to school today. It is snowing outside and will probably be pretty cold!

I have a roast in the crock pot for dinner and with this weather it will be a nice meal, I hope!

School is going well, and so far I am keeping up with the reading and homework.

And speaking of school, I need to get going. With snow on the roads I need a little extra time to get to school. For some unknown reason I am now driving like a grandma when the roads are bad! :)

It's back to school time!

I've become such a slacker with my blog! Since my last post Chelsea had an indoor soccer game, which her team lost. :( This was her first real indoor game so hopefully she and her team will get better at it. It is much different than outdoor soccer. On Sunday, after church, I went with Mike to some of his (and now my) friend's house to watch football. It's been many, many years since I've done that but we had fun so that's all that counts.

On Monday I started school. On MWF I have Family Relations and Statistics. I think both will be okay. I will certainly like Family Relations better but my statistics professor is a young woman who has a reputation for making this class interesting. I am glad my last math class had a section on statistics so I won't be completely ignorant!

On Tues. and Thurs. I have Human Behavior and the Social Environment (HBSE) and Human Development. The HBSE class will be fun because I already know 7 of the 16 students in the class. Another fun part of this class is the requirement to create a book all about me. This is something the scrapbooking community is always promoting and now that I have to do it for my grade I'll actually get it done. Human Development should be interesting too, but this class has about 60 students which makes it less fun because it almost has to be taught by lecture because there are just too many students to have a lot of real discussion.

I also have an online course, Library Science, which is about using the library and other resources for research. Now I just have to be disciplined to get that done since it's at my own pace!

Mike told me the other day that he liked me before he went to Japan and knew he was going to ask me out even then, but since he knew he'd be gone for two years he decided to wait until he got back. Isn't that sweet! I had no clue! Things are going well for us and I've dated him longer than anyone I've dated in 15 years! In fact, I haven't dated any guy for more than 6 weeks since Chelsea was born. According to Mike our first date was August 16th, so we are doing pretty well so far!

On a more somber note, three Airmen from Hill AFB were killed this week in Iraq. Although I didn't know them I did know the fiance of the female Airman who was killed. I used to be the first sergeant for the unit they are assigned to so I do know many of their coworkers. As Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technicians, they knew the hazards of their jobs and were well trained to carry out their duties, but this situation is still so terrible. I sure hope the President know's what he's doing now and can get us out of there soon.

My friend, Tammy, is still in Baghdad so I ask you to please keep her in your prayers. She is due to return in March and I just hope she does so safely and in one piece.

Snow, Snow, Snow

It has snowed about 3 inches so far and continues off and on. I busted out the snowblower around noon because if the snow gets too deep it's too much for my little blower. It was wet and heavy so I'm glad I got it done. Now the snow seems to be melting as it lands on the driveway.

Mike got home last night! YAY! It was so nice to see him again! We went to the gym this morning and he is coming over for dinner tonight. We are having leftovers (shepherds pie and meatloaf) so I hope he isn't too disappointed. If this relationship continues to grow I dont' want him to think he's going to get a gourmet meal every night! :)

I got my bathroom cleaned today. I did a Spring cleaning and tossed a bunch of stuff out. I don't know what's got into me lately. I really don't like to clean but do it because it has to be done, but the past few days I've really worked on the kitchen, living room and now the bathroom. I think I'll try to clean out my closets this weekend. Then I'll have an excuse to get some new clothes!

I found out the other day that Chelsea's Engineering Design class is eligible for concurrent enrollment which is great. Earning college credit as a 9th grader is pretty rare! She has no intention of continuing with the engineering courses next year so she doesn't really care.

I am getting excited about starting school again. It will be nice to be out every day by noon. I have one online class (Library Science, which is a required course) so will have to be disciplined to get that done.

Mike got a call from a gov't contractor today and was told that although they currently can't hire him because they are waiting for money for this particular program, he is #1 on the list to be hired. I thought that was great news. In the meantime he is going to send out a few more resumes and look for a volunteer position to keep him busy once I'm back in school. He really doesn't need to work as long as he is happy with his current lifestyle, but he would like a big house and a new Harley so he'll have to get a job to afford those.

Went to the gym and ran and then worked out on weights. I just hope I can stick with it so I'll look good when Chelsea and I go to Hawaii in 2008! Plus I don't want to have to worry about my osteopenia turning into osteoporosis!

My mom had surgery on her back today and my dad called a little while ago to let me know everything went fine. She has been in pain for a long time so I am glad it all went okay and now hopefully she won't be in pain.

Skiing was great

We got up early and headed up to Snowbasin. I was pleasantly surprised to see the parking lot virtually empty. We got right on the gondola and had a nice day of skiing/snowboarding. I got tired around noon, but Chelsea founds some friends to snowboard with so I ran into Ogden and got some errands done and then picked her up. We went out to dinner for Sam's birthday. We went to Applebee's and Sam was thrilled when they sang to him and he even got balloons when he left. Probably his last since he just turned 13! :) BTW, I had the Weight Watchers Cajun Lime Tilapia, which was wonderful!

I am sore and tired so will head to bed early. I have to get up early tomorrow to get Chelsea off to school. Then I think I will head out to the base gym for a workout. I will miss my fitness group workout tomorrow and I really need it.

I will be picking Mike up at the airport tomorrow evening and I am ready for him to come home. I might even get a dinner out of him since his flight gets in at 6:55 pm and I am pretty sure he won't have eaten before. Guess I'd better check on that! :)

Busy New Years

So far this year I've cleaned out my fridge and washed it out. Then I went through the freezer, my pantry and my deep freeze. I threw a lot of expired stuff away and gave a bunch of food to my neighbor since it was stuff either Chelsea or I didn't like or just had too much of. I downloaded some inventory sheets from organizedhome.com so now I will know what I have before I go shopping and buy more. I also hand scrubbed my kitchen floor. I usually use my swiffer mop but it really looks much better when it is hand cleaned. I also took down all my Christmas decorations and put them away. Now I'm exhausted!

Mike called from Arizona. He and his friend are grilling and watching the BSU football game and I am sure they are having a few beers as well. He'll be home in two days and I am really looking forward to that.

Tomorrow Chelsea and I will be going skiing in the morning, then going to my friend's sons birthday party, which will include bowling. I suck so bad at bowling, but it should be a fun time! Maybe I can ask for bumpers!
