The first bad news was that my mom sprained her ankle while visiting relatives in N. Dakota. Originally I heard she broke her foot and ankle, but I spoke with her tonight and she says it's just a bad sprain.
The really bad news is that my niece's husband was killed in a vehicle vs. train accident. I don't have any details other than he was a passenger in a pickup that hit the train. I guess he and a friend (who was the former boyfriend of my other niece) were in the truck and they ran into the train that was already in the crossing. I don't know if drugs or alcohol were involved, or what. I have heard of being hit by a train, but not hitting a train. In fact, the train crew didn't even know the train had been hit.
My niece was in the middle of a very messy divorce when this happened. She has two young boys who are now without a father. Very sad. I really don't know what to do. Do I send a sympathy card? I guess I will. What a tragedy. I am really getting tired of young lives being taken. What is going on!?
